HISTORY ;;
The third son of one of Aeda’s most wealthy and powerful merchant families, Reese was never expected to inherit. His older brothers were trained in managing his family’s fortunes, the oldest to inherit, the younger in the case that the older could not, and to assist him if he could. Reese’s role in his family was to be shared by his younger brother: captaining the large merchant vessels that shipped his families assorted goods from Aeda to Southern Eire’s other major ports. He learned the routes to Keirnan and Colndor, to Aurora and Razen, to Azudesce and Erisport, Drasna and Kavan. He learned to function in the major sea trade languages, Megam and Atsirian. He learned to read the skies for when maps failed, and maps for when the skies did. And when he learned all the classroom could teach him, he went to the sea itself for more training.
From the time he was nine until he was sixteen, he served as a sailor on his parents’ ships, working up in the ranks from cabin boy, to sailor, to mate, until, at seventeen, he was given the captaincy of his first ship. His deliriously proud family allowed him to choose the crew, mates, cargo, and routes himself, trusting all the time and money they had put into his training to pay off.
Shows how much they knew.
Reese’s time on the sea had earned him with several habits that his parents, had they known them, would definitely consider ... unsavoury, to say the very least.
While his family did their best to pick men of honour and trustworthiness to crew their galleys, there were always those who slipped through the cracks, and Reese had learned the less wholesome aspect of piloting a merchant ship: smuggling. Moving goods past customs, packing more than what you claim to, all the right routes and strategies, and using this knowledge, he had been building his own fortune for years. His own ship, his own crew, his own mates, his own cargo, his own routes, these all simply provided the perfect way for him to take his hobby to the next step, full time work.
The other habit he picked up was just as bad. A young man maturing on a ship, surrounding by male sailors and exhibiting a natural curiousity as he moved through the stages of life, finds ways to compensate for rarely having women around ... and, soon enough, the acquired taste becomes the preferred taste, until the alternative isn’t really so appealing at all, any longer ...
Reese ran his own ship on these terms for two years, wherein he cheated many people and made a great deal of money. However, things took a sudden turn for the worst when he was nineteen. His current lover went to his parents with all the information he knew ... right down to the fact that he was his lover ...
Perhaps a criminal for a son could be overcome with chastisement and direction, and perhaps a homosexual for a son could be the same, but a homosexual criminal for a son was a blow too hard for Reese’s family to take. He was stripped of all his inheritance and disowned, all the money they could put their hands on that he had made for himself taken, his crew disbanded, his ship burned. His brothers and sister fully supported this decision, and were perhaps even more disgusted than his parents.
But Reese was not the type to be shot down by this. He harboured a bitter hatred for his family in his heart, and turned to all the friends he’d made while learning the smuggling routes. The authorities all knew his name and his description, thanks to his parents, but Reese easily overcame this by bleaching his dark hair thoroughly to a near platinum blond, and never going by the same name twice. And he built himself up, until he once again had his own ship, his own crew, and ruled the trade routes of the sea, only this time, he has no one to answer to but himself.
His goal? To take his wealthy family’s fortune apart piece by piece.

PERSONALITY ;;
Reese is an easy-going, clever-tongued, arrogant little prick. He believes himself infallible, and being told he’s not quite frankly pisses him off, and makes him defensive. Not in a “I am perfect at everything” sort of way in so many words, but he never second guesses his choices, always has confidence that he’s giving the right answer, even on subjects he has little knowledge of, and doesn’t really view himself as having many flaws ... and the ones he does have, he flaunts and is proud of.
For this reason, as well as a sort of rebellion against his parents and the sheer amount of time he spent on the sea where no man owes allegiance to any one place or culture, Reese’s opinion on his preferences is a bit different from the Dentorian standard. He’s quite proud of being gay, flaunts it, even, not to the point where he hits on every man walking by, he’s a bit more tasteful than that, but when he has a lover, he makes his displays of affection very public. He’s especially fond of doing this in Megam and Dentoria. He holds those who consider it a weakness or abomination in very low esteem, once again, linking back to his parents.
Reese is greedy and has very few morals. He doesn’t blanch at doing anything that will get him ahead, and thinks that rules and laws pretty much exist for the sole purpose of being bent. Except for the rules he makes, his men had best see him as King on his ship, or they’ll be taking a long walk off a short prow. He forms very few attachments to people, sees friends as a weakness, and considers himself a lone wolf. A fun-loving, clever lone wolf, not one of those solemn, boring ones.
Despite all these flaws, though, Reese is a genuinely likable fellow, to those who have the stomach for him. He’s charismatic, witty, and while not quite as funny as he believes himself to be, certainly worth the occasional chuckle. Add to this the fact that he’s good-looking, well-educated, very smart, and a kickass smuggler, he can actually be somewhat hard to dislike –- at least in the circles wherein he spends his time.

APPERANCE ;;
Reese’s natural hair colour is a mid-tone brown, but he keeps it constantly bleached light blond to avoid those who know his description given by his parents. His amethyst eyes, however, are slightly more difficult to hide. Nevertheless, he almost always manages to slip through patrols. He has a slim, but very solid build, with muscles hardened from many years working at sea. Despite the impracticality of such a choice, he still dresses in the fine clothes he was raised in, thinking that it’s his due as a once wealthy merchant, disowned for “stupid reasons.”
It's fairly obvious to the types of people Reese spends his time near these days that he was once upper class -- his speech is more defined than seems natural, and he knows how to hold himself.
